Here we are, only a couple of weeks away from the launch of the Wii U. Naturally, this has led me to take a little bit of time to sit back and reflect on this last generation of games. And thinking about it, the Wii has had one problem which stood out above all others ever since that November 19th launch six years ago, and it is that…
…there just weren’t any games for it.
(Note: This doesn’t include WiiWare or Virtual Console titles for obvious reasons. Plus, here are some other titles I’ve wanted to get my hands on, but haven’t been able to for one reason or another (in no particular order):
- Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension
- Data East Arcade Classics
- Mercury Meltdown: Revolution
- Epic Mickey
- Little King’s Story
- Muramasa: The Demon Blade
- NBA Jam
- Mario Sports Mix
- Wii Party
- Kirby’s Epic Yarn
- New Play Control! Pikmin
- Rabbids Go Home
- Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
- Wii Sports Resort
- A Boy and His Blob(this is actually one of my top most-wanted among these)
- LEGO Batman
- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
- Boom Blox
- Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
- Cooking Mama: Cook Off
- WarioWare: Smooth Moves
- Mario Party 8
- Batman: The Brave And The Bold
- Battalion Wars 2
- Disaster: Day of Crisis (though I’d have to import/mod for that, admittedly)
That’s just a few, of course. I’m sure there are some I’ve forgotten (Edit: Link’s Crossbow Training and Flingsmash, as it turns out), that others could recommend, or which I might have overlooked or ignored on account of being on another console [Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, which I have on Xbox 360, for instance.])
So, yeah. Woe is me, for my console has done nothing but collect dust for six years, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. I can only hope that maybe the Wii U will answer the call and provide some actual games to play when it comes out on the 18th. You know, besides the 23 it launches with and the couple of dozen other launch window games to come before March.
Because heaven help us if we have to suffer an absolute drought like this again.
